free meals and admission to honor vets for
their service time -- both in wars and peace
time. Los Angeles County is home to the
largest veteran population in the state.
The message ahead of this Veterans Day
is “they are our neighbors, friends, brothers,
sisters, co-workers and classmates.” The greatest
number of living veterans -- 606,879 -- in
the state served in the Gulf War. Vietnam vets
represent the second largest group at 444,695,
according to the state’s veteran affairs office.
There are more than 83,000 who served in
Korea and 38,622 fought in WWII.
The federal holiday that falls on Nov.
11 honors military veterans with parades
and speeches in cities across the nation. A
remembrance ceremony takes place at the
Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National
Cemetery in Arlington, Va. The ceremony
honors and thanks all who served in the U.S.
Armed Forces. Free meals and admission to
attractions are available starting Saturday.
The BattleShip IOWA in San Pedro is
offering free admission to its Veterans Day
festival and everyone is welcome. Free selfguided
tour admission will also be available
from the 10th through 12th for veterans, as
well as current service members, with valid
military I.D.
The Los Angeles Rams will honor military
personnel, their families and friends at
Sunday’s “Salute to Service” game vs. the
Seattle Seahawks. The division-leading L.A.
team will offer an exclusive ticket discount
to veterans, both active and retired.
Aerospace Museum of California, North
Highlands: Free admission to all guests on
Veterans Day.
Aquarium of the Pacific: Free Admission,
Long Beach: Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.,
the Aquarium of the Pacific is offering free
admission with valid service identification.
California State Parks: Free admission to
veterans, active duty and reserve personnel
at 143 participating state parks on Monday.
Eagle Crest Golf Club, Escondido: Free
golf for veterans and active military members
on Nov. 11, which includes green fees. Carts
may be purchased separately.
Knott’s Berry Farm, Buena Park: The theme
park is offering Military Tribute Days with
free admission to active duty and retired
military, and veterans. This offer is valid
through Nov. 15. (Also good between Nov.
26 and Dec. 21.) Promotion covers admission
for the service member and one guest.
Additional tickets may be purchased by the
Military I.D. holder at a discounted rate.
Lyon Air Museum, Santa Ana: Veterans,
retired military and active duty military will
receive free museum admission to the Lyon Air
Museum on Veterans Day Sunday, Nov. 11.
Nixon Library, Yorba Linda: Free admission
on Monday, including a special Veterans Day
ceremony with General McChrystal.
Pirate’s Dinner Adventure, Buena Park:
From Nov. 11-12, former and active military
members can enjoy a free show. In addition,
service.
USS Midway Museum, San Diego: Free
admission for veterans and active military
members and their families Nov. 10 and 11.
Maximum of four admissions per military
ID. Activities include a Veterans Day Parade
along Harbor Drive, blood drive, live entertainment,
KidZone and giveaways.
