Genny will provide a personal look at how the 2016 presidential election and political process is affecting her, her family, classmates, and future. Genny, 15, supports Hillary Clinton and is interested in issues regarding the economy and climate change. An active volleyball player, she also enjoys debating politics with her parents and is looking forward to her freshmen year of high school. As part of her involvement with the OneVote campaign, Genny is hoping to get a wider perspective on issues facing her generation. Looking towards the future, Genny hopes to The Roundhouse Aquarium, located at the end of the pier in Manhattan Beach, will be holding a fundraiser Tuesday, October 25 from 7:00 to 10:00 PM at the Manhattan Country Club. Called Sea Starry Night, the fundraiser’s purpose is to start an endowment and to cover operational and program expenses of the Aquarium. Tickets, which are $125 each or two for $200, can be purchased through the Aquarium website at http://roundhouse aquarium.org/seastarry night-2016/. The price of admission includes music, dancing, the ability to bid on over 50 silent and live auction items, a lively program featuring celebrities, hors d’oeuvres, and beer and wine. The Mira Costa Jazz Band will perform while guests are arriving and later in the evening the live local band, Velicious, will play music for dancing. The silent auction items are outstanding and include overnight stays at hotels such as the new Redondo Beach Shade; tickets to many sports events including having a suite for a Lakers game; health and beauty products and services such as a Murad gift basket and a year’s membership at Trilogy Spa; dinners at such renowned local restaurants as Rock’n Fish, Saint Rocke’s, and Darren’s; tours and lunch with politicians, including one at the State Capitol; and various autographed items such as a football signed by Josh Rosen and Bing Copeland’s book on surfboards. The women chairing the auction committee, Janet Soliman-Suard and Houry Samuelian promise, “There are several other really big items in the works that you won’t want to miss.” The committee members planning the fundraiser are also asking celebrities to attend. For starters, the MC for the evening will be J. D. Roth, co-creator and executive producer of The Biggest Loser, actor, children’s game show host, voice-over performer, and television producer of reality shows. Other confirmed celebrities are State Senator Ben Allen who will present a state resolution Genny Jackson follow in her father’s footsteps and become a lawyer.  “I really became passionate about this election after watching the primary debates with my dad. I like to talk about the campaign issues and topics with my family, even though we don’t always share the same views. I was undecided about which candidate to support until relatively recently, but the national conventions helped me come to a decision,” Genny said. OneVote 2016 will culminate in a mock election in late October 2016 in which millions of students are expected to vote. Students have accurately predicted the next president of the United States in every OneVote poll since the program began in 1992. Election results will be announced during a special edition broadcast on November 1. Article and photo provided by Jennifer Berlin • Sea Starry Night Soirée honoring the Aquarium, actor and singer Wally Kurth, Modern Family writer-producer Danny Zuker, and Olympic beach volleyball medalist Holly McPeak. The committee has been hard at work securing sponsors. According to Lynne Gross, the Aquarium Board of Directors member, who is helping to coordinate the event, “The community is definitely behind the Aquarium as evidenced by the $60,000 we have raised so far in sponsorships.” These sponsorships include the Bloomfield Family Foundation, Continental Development Corporation; Chevron; Dickie and Mark Burton; Portia and Andy Cohen; Farmers Insurance - the Carla Ramirez Agency of Manhattan Beach; Lynne and Paul Gross; Gurman Wealth Management Inc. Insurance Strategies; Kinecta Federal Credit Union; Diane and John Roberts; Steve and Houry Samuelian; and the West Basin Municipal Water District. Gross adds, “Additional sponsorships at the $1,000, $5,000, and $10,000 levels will be greatly appreciated. Information about them is available on the Roundhouse Aquarium website.” The idea for the fundraiser came when Steve Samuelian, owner of the grant writing company, California Consulting, wrote on Gross’ Facebook page saying he wanted to do something for the Aquarium because his teen-age son was having such a positive experience volunteering there. Because he had organized fundraisers in the past, he volunteered to do one for the Aquarium pro bono. “Lynne and I put together a wonderful
