October 6, 2016 Page 3 Community Briefs Bomb Threat (One Year Later – Still No Leads) On September 14, 2015 between 8:30a.m. and 9:25a.m., the Manhattan Beach Studios (MBS) received three calls from an unknown male expressing a hatred towards America and Americans and stated he was going to blow up the studios. Manhattan Beach detectives determined that one of the calls was placed from a telephone booth in Santa Monica, CA. Detectives were able to obtain surveillance video from a nearby business at the time of one of the calls. A dark skin male is seen on the telephone and leaves a short time later. Detectives believe that male is responsible for the threats. The suspect is a male adult, unknown age, dark skin, 5’09” – 6’02, wearing glasses and a watch on his right wrist, a pink short sleeve Polo type shirt, black pants, black shoes with pink shoe strings The suspect’s vehicle shown in photo was a 2002 – 2006 BMW 325i sedan convertible, black with black top. Chamber Announces Date for “Best of Manhattan” The Best of Manhattan awards ceremony is returning to the city at the Manhattan Beach Marriott on October 20, 2016 at 6pm. Now in its fourth year, it will bring together community leaders to spotlight innovation and excellence and will recognize the best and brightest of Manhattan Beach that embody the 8 categories set by the awards committee. The categories for the 2016 awards will include: the all-around Best of Manhattan award, the Small and Mighty award recognizing a small or individually operated Manhattan Beach business, the Enhancing MB award for a non-profit organization that has brought tremendous value and benefit to the community, the Affair to Remember award which recognizes an event held in MB that is fun for the whole community and no cost to attend, the Home Sweet Home award for an individual within real estate, wealth management or mortgage profession who promotes excellence in service and ethics, the Shop MB award recognizing a store front in Manhattan Beach which is known for its customer service and satisfied customers, the Top Chef award recognizing an outstanding MB chef known for their attention to presentation, originality, and specialty, and the Pay It Forward award recognizing a business with a proven record of exceptional generosity. Photos by Oscar Zagal  The Manhattan Beach Fire Foundation (MBFF) hosted their launch event on September 15, 2016 at the Shade Hotel in Manhattan Beach from 5:30PM to 7:30PM. The community was invited to attend the free event to learn more about the organization and hear from the Manhattan Beach Fire Department and the President of the MBFF.
