Family Promise is a community based approach to solving homelessness by engaging both the local community as well as houses of faith. Families in the program receive a full complement of resources, support and Rosemary Bandes was the featured artist at the Destination: Art reception held on May 16 at their gallery located at 1815 W. 213th Street, #135 in Torrance. The showing included Rosemary’s recent abstract work made with poured resin as well as her California impressionist art. She is a member of Women’s Painters West, Pacific Art Guild, Experimental Artists of the South Bay, International Society of Experimental Artists and is an in house studio artist at Destination: Art. Destination: Art is a venue for South Bay fine artists and artisans to work, teach and exhibit. Women’s Fitness Challenge Officer Chuong Vo, part of the Background Investigations Personnel Division of the Torrance Police Department discussed the upcoming Women’s Fitness Challenge on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at Wilson Park Sports Center, 2400 Jefferson Street, Torrance, 90505 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. “It is open to the public… We have jobs for the whole department – forensics, records, administrative assistants, we have service officers who work in the jails, counter, IT, we have crossing guards for those who are retired, and we actually have some are not retired. People aren’t aware that we have all these other jobs besides police officers,” said Officer Vo. The Torrance Police is actively recruiting women for the department. “We want to make it comfortable for them…this is a process that anybody can do. We will be putting on a demonstration that day – they can participate, and ask our females any questions. We want it to be accessible, comfortable and not intimidating for them [women]. Animal Control will be there, dispatchers will be there, and anybody that is available that day – we are asking them to come out and participate…we want to pick up quality applicants,” added Officer Vo.
