One Man’s Opinion Another Man’s Opinion
When Education is Sacrificed,
Consequences Can Be Troubling
By Cristian Vasquez
Cutting funds from education is dangerous
because it leaves young minds vulnerable to
misinformation. When money is tight, we
have become accustomed to targeting education
with budget cuts. Typically areas like
the arts and music are the first to suffer, but
the entire curriculum is affected. The danger
is that when students have to miss out on
lesson plans, whatever the cause, they go
through school with certain blanks in their
knowledge because teachers might have to
skip or rush through sections. Enter the comments
by Christian radio host Bryan Fischer.
The Christian entertainer used his platform
to express that the recent eclipse is a sign
of God. To Fischer’s credit he did say his
comments are “a metaphor,” but he immediately
followed that disclaimer with “or a
sign, of the work of the Prince of Darkness
in obscuring the light of God’s truth.” While
the radio host might have very well been
speaking metaphorically, the fact that he threw
in that little “or a sign” make his comments
dangerous. Why dangerous? Because we know
through basic science what causes an eclipse.
We know that a solar eclipse is caused when
the moon orbits in between the earth and the
sun, causing sunlight to be fully or partially
blocked. We also know that a lunar eclipse
is when the moon passed directly behind the
earth, into our planet’s shadow.
So, is an eclipse really a sign from God?
Metaphorically speaking it could be compared
to anything--but when he sneaks in “or a
sign,” the message being sent out can have
detrimental effects. I’m going to guess that
this radio host has a pretty sizeable following
and that those listeners are reasonable
grownups who can see past subtleties of
the language. However, what happens when
a kid is listening? Granted the hypothetical
child in this example isn’t receiving lifethreatening
information, but it is taking in
false information that can be a detriment to
their overall education.
Yes, parents can impart any religious teachings
they deem appropriate for their child.
Furthermore, the school shouldn’t (unless
faith-based) interfere with said religious
teachings. However, when schools suffer
budget cuts, there is a negative trickle effect
throughout the student body because of the
lessons missed that they will not get back. I
currently work with kids and the two weeks
leading up to the eclipse were filled with
questions about the event: “Is it true it’s the
end of the world?” or as vague as, “I heard
it’s something with God.” Fortunately, our
principal made it a point that we focused
on the eclipse and explained why the event
was such a big deal in the news.
I’m not trying to attack Fischer for his comments,
or belittle what he does or believes.
He caters to a grown-up audience that can
very well turn the dial if they don’t like what
they hear. And kids will always have some
outlandish rumor that they heard to explain
a particular event. However, when false
comparisons are made and education is the
easiest area to cut from when money is short,
that can lead to troubling consequences. •
Missouri State Senator Calls for
Trump’s Assassination, and the
Elite Media’s Response: Crickets
By Duane Plank
Newsflash: Senator Maria Chappelle-Nadal
was adamant that she isn’t resigning over a
Facebook post calling for President Donald
Trump’s assassination. Chappelle-Nadal, a
University City, Missouri Democrat, has
faced calls by Missouri’s top Democrats and
Republicans demanding she resign from the
legislature over a comment she posted on her
personal Facebook Thursday: “I hope Trump
is assassinated.”
Perfect. Ms. Chappelle-Nadal apparently
removed her outrageous post, but has caught
little, if any pushback. Imagine if a Republican
pol had called for Mr. Obama’s assassination?
This is where we are, now, politically speaking.
A Dem pol posits for the assassination of our
President. And doesn’t apologize. And, in this
tilting leftist world, no one apparently cares
enough to make it a big deal. Instead, on CNN’s
Sunday morning weekly media round-up show,
the focus was on how unfit and unstable Trump
is, and how the heck can we get him out?
Did CNN and MSNBC go 24/7 demanding
this lady, who wants to assassinate our
President, be adiosed? Uh, no. Shockingly,
they moved on and out, hoping to make a
conflagration out of the Boston walk-arounds
last Saturday. A nothing-burger in which leftist
protesters--many of them the same folks who
are paid to travel around the country and stir
up trouble--were asked by the brave men and
women who were trying to keep the peace in
Boston (the police) to refrain from “throwing
bottles, rocks and urine” at them.
Any of you see the movie Monuments Men?
I watched the first 20 minutes, got bored. Short
attention span, which comes with old age.
Anyway, aging military Americans, a mishmash
of historians, art scholars and dreaded
academics, went into Germany to rescue old
stuff that had been gripped by ruthless Nazis.
Now a bunch of folks--and I guarantee you
this, some who could not even spell monument-
-who should maybe secure a job, as opposed
to being paid to protest (you do know that a
lot of these thugs on the left are paid protesters,
right?) are demanding the removal of
historic statues.
CNN is going 24/7 right now, Saturday
morning, as the peaceful protest is going on
in Boston. Dems and sycophants are out there
wandering around with signs and wearing
Skechers—and many of those paid protesters
are presumably on the dole, pleading for an
opportunity to get on TV. Fifteen seconds of
fame. As fabled conman and boxing promoter
Don King once said, “Only in America.”
CNN was very disappointed that no heads
were crushed, that no idiot decided to try to run
over some of the protesters. No viral videos.
No talking points for the next day’s news cycle.
Based out here in California, the monument
question is a tangential fight, right?
BTW, what happened to the Russia collusion
deal? Now it is all about the monuments.
When this imbroglio peters out, what is the
next talking point in the leftist playbook? •
