Proposed Tower Gas Station at
Carson and Gramercy Ave
I am writing in opposition to the proposed
gas station and mini mart on Carson between
Gramercy and Andreo. This mega gas station
with six islands is way out of scope for
Old Downtown Torrance. With all the major
fires in California does Torrance really need
another dangerous liability? If a train were
crossing and blocking Carson Street, this
would be the only gas station in Torrance
with no direct access by the Torrance Fire
Department. Lives and property are at stake
here. Please tell your city council members
what you think! Thank you,

Reckless Driver Pursuit Fatality
On October 14, at approximately 2:08
a.m., Torrance Police officers attempted a
traffic stop on a reckless driver in a green
Ford Ranger suspected of DUI in the area
of Pacific Coast Highway and Hawthorne
Boulevard. The driver failed to yield and a
pursuit ensued. Officers utilized a Precision
Intervention Technique (PIT) maneuver.
After a second attempt, an officer involved
shooting occurred near the 2900 block of
Sepulveda Boulevard.
Officers immediately performed life-saving
measures on the driver and he was transported
to a local hospital. The driver was pronounced
deceased a short time later. The driver has
not been positively identified by investigators.
This incident is being investigated under
the command and direction of Acting Captain
Jeremiah Hart of the Special Operations Bureau
with the assistance of the Los Angeles
County District Attorney’s Office who is
reviewing this incident as is routine for all
officer involved shootings. Anyone with
additional information related to this case
is encouraged.

Bank Robbery Solved Within Days
On Monday, October 2 at about 3 p.m., a male
suspect entered Opus Bank located at 23600
Hawthorne Boulevard and passed a note to the
bank teller demanding money. Reports indicate
the suspect successfully gained thousands of
dollars. Opus Bank investigators and agents from
the Federal Bureau of Investigations partnered
with Torrance Police detectives to solve the case.
Through this collaboration, it was determined the
teller was actually an accomplice, specifically
the suspect’s girlfriend. The investigation also
led officials to recover a portion of the stolen
money. The two suspects are Chandler Leniu
and Marlene Wickham, both 21-year-old
Long Beach residents. This investigation was
conducted under the command and direction
of The Federal Bureau of Investigations and
Torrance Police Captain Martin Vukotic of the
Special Operations Bureau.
