No Laws Were Going to Prevent
the Tragedy in Las Vegas
By Cristian Vasquez
It is heartbreaking and exhausting that we,
as a country, must once again live through the
trauma of a mass shooting. Unfortunately, there
was really no law that could exist that would
have prevented this massacre. This time the
senseless violence occurred in Las Vegas during
a music festival--and given the modern-day
news cycle, most if not all of you are aware
of the details. While I have always advocated
for extensive background checks in order to
avoid unstable individuals from owning guns,
the truth is that the shooting that occurred on
October 1 would not have been prevented by
any legislative measure.
For starters, there is no criminal record
indicating that the shooter was a violent
person who posed a risk to society. So there
was no type of background check (which
the shooter actually passed) that would
have given authorities any indication that he
would lash out in a violent shooting. As far
as investigators know, the murderer had no
more than a traffic violation. In addition, the
man had no history of mental disorders or
instabilities. Which brings me back to the
original argument: No amount of laws could
have prevented this shooting. One argument
I’ve heard is to ban anyone from owning
that many weapons. While that’s an idea that
doesn’t seem unreasonable, it too fails to
prevent instances like these from occurring.
Let’s assume for argument’s sake that the
shooter had half of the arsenal found in the
room--heck, a fourth of the weaponry. He still
would have carried out his attack. This monster
could have had one gun and still caused
horrific damage, but the difference would be
a lesser death toll. Is that where we’re at as
a nation? Are we really willing to settle for
less casualties?
I’ll play along and say that banning guns
altogether would have prevented this massacre.
That too is an erroneous approach. Where to
begin? Timothy McVeigh killed 168 innocent
people and injured 600 without a single bullet.
Let’s look at our neighbors to the south and
how their ban on guns is working out. Mexico
has one of the highest murder rates in the
world (22,967 in 2016) with no indication of
things getting better. If we take the time to
learn from our past mistakes, it should come
as no surprise that the moment our nation
makes something illegal, it paves the road for
black market activities that then become nearly
impossible to control. So before banning guns
to avoid gun violence, let’s remember that
prohibition made America a violent alcoholic.
Sadly, I don’t have an answer and it seems
that nobody else will have the solution anytime
soon. Background checks, mental evaluations
and other safety measures will definitely help
prevent violence-prone people from obtaining
guns. However, what people with spotless
criminal records/mental evaluations do with
the guns isn’t something anyone can really
control. Sure, we could argue to ban guns
altogether, but good luck with that new black
market that will be created. Last I heard, there
are no background checks required. •
Do Lefties Care as Elitist Perverts
Continue Preying on Women?
By Duane Plank
So recently was ambushed on a weekend
while I was doing my due diligence studying the
voluminous policy papers written by President
Trump…ha, ha, with the fact that another liberal
pervert was somehow being outted because he/
she had not been acting in a chivalrous, genteel
manner to folks of the other sex.
Now, as I was turning the dial on the radio,
just heard that “Stein” name was being excoriated
for fondling people of the opposite sex.
Shocked, I was, and could not fathom how
our glorious Senator Dianne Feinstein, who
is now poised to run for a sixth term as a US
Senator, would take young minions into her
bathtub, disrobe and ask for a massage.
Somewhat shocked and appalled with the
revelation that my duly elected Senator, whom
I, as a bit of a righty, admire her cunning and
ability to get things done in the cesspool that
is Washington, would invite youngsters up
to her palatial room to give her a pat-down.
Dang, I thought, she doesn’t need to do
that to get reelected in 2018. She is basically
running unopposed because the Republican
Party in this state is in a state of disarray and
will continue to be until, as the great band the
Eagles said, “Hell Freezes Over.”
Anyway, when I started to pay more attention
to the pervert “Stein,” it wasn’t the distinguished
Senator, but pervert Harvey Weinstein, who-
-according to the fawning lefty media--is/was
an indie film impresario, mega-star producer,
yada, yada, yada.
Except this corpulent, ugly 65-year-old man
used his alleged power as a “movie mogul” to
coerce women--and I am sure some of them
played the game--to accompany him back to
his room to watch him shower.
My great friend Andy, a Redondo land baron,
had a great line about men with power and,
not-so-coincidentally, money appealing to the
basic interests of some women…” It’s a job…
for a job.” he said. Think about it.
So, Weinstein the pervert has been abusing
ladies for years and yet there seems to be a
silence about that? How can that happen?
Smidge of hypocrisy? Now that the Weinstein
story has sullied the media, A-listers like the…
well, they aren’t A-listers anymore, but still
have their calling cards--like Jolie and Paltrow
emerged and said they too were harassed by
the pig Weinstein. I even think the great Meryl
Streep may have chimed in. Yeah, the one
who every bleeping awards show she is on,
pontificates about women’s rights, “go, sister”
and the WNBA. She said Weinstein never tried
to harass her. No comment here why he would
pass on throwing a pass at her.
And the biggest hypocrite in the Weinstein
imbroglio would be the biggest loser, Hillary
Clinton, still traveling around the country,
pimping her book. On the heels of five days
of silence after the Weinstein disgrace began,
presumably walking in the woods and drinking
as much wine as a big Dixie cup could hold,
she said she had no idea that one of her biggest
donors was a lecher and pervert.
So help me, Bill Clinton, Anthony Wiener
and Harve Weinstein. Lefties all! •
