Elderfest, Senior
Citizen of the Year Nomination
May is Older Americans Month, a perfect
opportunity to show appreciation for older
adults in the community. This year’s theme,
“Engage at Every Age,” emphasizes that you
are never too old (or too young) to take part
in activities that enrich your physical, mental
and emotional well-being. It also celebrates
the many ways older adults make a difference.
Every year, the El Segundo Recreation
and Parks Department solicits nominations
for El Segundo Older American of the
Year. A selection committee determines
the winner and the 2018 honoree will be
recognized at the Elderfest Celebration on
May 12, and also at a luncheon hosted by the
County Department of Aging in Downtown
Los Angeles.
All older Americans in the community are
invited to attend the Elderfest, participate
in vendor exhibits, and receive free lunch.
Nomination guidelines:
• Must be 60 years of age or older
• Must be an El Segundo resident or
someone who makes a substantial impact
in the local community.
• Must have volunteer accomplishments in
one of the following areas: Community service;
role model/mentorship; active membership
in community or civic club, commission or
service organization.
Nominations must include a brief statement
about the person recommended and a short
application form. Forms are available at all
El Segundo recreation facilities and the library
and must be returned to the Joslyn Center, 339
Sheldon Street, by Feb. 26. The selection committee
consists of representatives from various
local service groups. For more information,
call (310) 524-2705.
