Last Wednesday, May 23, El Segundo
City Council and School Board members
joined with City department heads to host
El Segundo High School students for Part II
of the 1st Annual Civic Day 2018. The
meeting, deemed as “Mock Day,” had City
officials and Council members holding a
mock council meeting. Students played the
role of council members and deliberated on
“real case” situations that the City currently
faces, such as residents paying for trash and
renovation of the Teen Center. Some
participating students acted as community
members from the audience who interacted
with the mock council with questions and
answers volleyed back and forth.
Prior to the mock council experience, the
City advised the participating students that
there were paid internships available and
encouraged those students to apply. Part II
will also be aired via El Segundo TV on both
community cable and YouTube, so students,
parents and community members can check
out the proceedings. •
