Voters Defending Moore Personify
Moral Decay GOP Claims to Fight
By Cristian Vasquez
With the multiple accusations of sexual
misconduct against some of Hollywood’s
biggest names, news about Alabama Senator
Roy Moore being accused of “sexual overtures”
with a 14-year-old girl when he was
32 isn’t very shocking. What is disgusting is
the willingness of his voter base and political
supporters to look past this behavior to ensure
he’s reelected to office. Yes, these are allegations
and there is a process to prove their validity,
but the willingness of his supporters to wait
and see is disgraceful. The most notable culprit
of this despicable behavior: Alabama State
Auditor Jim Ziegler who was quoted by the
Washington Examiner in defense of Moore in
saying, “Mary was a teenager and Joseph was
an adult carpenter. They became parents of
Jesus. There’s just nothing immoral or illegal
here. Maybe just a little bit unusual.”
Ziegler using a Biblical reference to defend
a man being accused of pedophilia is the
epitome of hypocrisy. Guilty or not, trying to
defend a relationship between a 32-year-old
man and a teenage girl is vile, loathsome
and nauseating, to say the least. Hence, why
Ziegler’s comments and behavior, much like
that of Moore’s voter base, personifies the moral
decay that conservatives so proudly claim to
fight against. Any voter in Alabama who is
not at least considering holding off their vote
because of these allegations is the real root of
America’s depraved and corrupt soul. I’d like
to ask these same voters what their thoughts
were on the late Michael Jackson…and if
they would let their 14-year-old go out with
the King of Pop. Or maybe Ziegler would be
comfortable sending one of his two children
out on a lunch date with Jared from Subway.
After all, it’s only “just a little bit unusual.”
Not convinced? Maybe the Senator’s words
will do the trick. In an interview with GOP
propaganda pundit Sean Hannity, Moore said
regarding the allegations, “I don’t remember
that, and I don’t remember ever dating any
girl without the permission of her mother.”
Notice how he didn’t say woman--he said girl.
This animal believes that it’s okay to date a
teenage girl as long as the parents consent.
There is simply no excuse for this shameless
justification of pedophilia. It is detestable for a
grown man to say it is acceptable for an adult
and high school student to date. Moore is sick.
His acceptance of a 32-year-old dating a girl
who still reports to homeroom should itself
be a crime, and Moore supporters standing by
his side despite all this demonstrates that this
country’s degeneration is fueled by conservatives
as much as by the liberals they attack.
Republican leadership has in part responded
accordingly with the GOP’s Senate campaign
arm by severing its fundraising agreement
with Moore. Furthermore, Moore’s support is
beginning to dwindle--but the fact that he still
has a chance at winning his race is shameful.
As Americans we should be embarrassed that
some people will put party above country, but
as humans we should be disgusted that some
of our countrymen aren’t upset at a sick man
trying to justify pedophilia. •
One Year After Miraculous Trump
Victory, the Resistance Continues
By Duane Plank
A little more than a year ago, 90-some
percent of the liberal establishment pundits
pontificated on the first Tuesday in November
that there was no way that the esteemed
Donald Trump--real estate mogul, reality
TV star (who watches that kind of garbage,
btw?)--had a pathway to the presidency with
the vagaries of the Electoral College.
At five P.M. PST, Hillary was reportedly--at
least according to my multiple fact-checkers-
-checking her wardrobe closet, culling for
a perky pantsuit outfit that she would sport
when she addressed her supporters and the
rest of the nation and claimed her victory
as she ascended through the “glass ceiling.”
Except the game changed, eh? I went to
work, covering a riveting local school board
meeting for which I wrote an incredibly cogent
article. As I walked out the door that evening
to make the incredibly long commute to the
El Segundo Unified School District office
(about four minutes), I figured the election
results were “fait accompli.”
The great Britt Hume, FOX commentator,
and a man who is incredibly smart and wellrespected
on both sides of the aisle, said he
saw no path to victory for the Donald.
Full disclosure. As I stood in the voting
booth, I had no idea whom I would end up
voting for that Tuesday. I was heartened that
a heck of a lot of folks were lined up to vote.
Folks may not care, or participate, in local
elections, but they were getting involved on
that Tuesday.
And their vote, at least for President, had
no sway whatsoever. If that is a word. So I
stood in the voting cubicle, was this close
to punching the chad, or whatever the heck
we do now--maybe I colored in a little circle
with a crayon, I don’t remember. I have been
an AARP member for about five years, so
that should say a bit.
And I selected Trump. What the heck,
I said. I could not select Hillary. Figured
that I was on the losing side, and since my
vote didn’t matter in the sanctuary state of
California, why not?
So, I return from covering the school
board meeting, which sometimes tends to
run a bit long, and I catch the same Britt
Hume on FOX saying that he didn’t see
any path to victory. Figured it was game
over and that the first female presidential
elect of the good old US of A would soon
be taking her victory lap, giving her “you
go, girl” speech.
Except the erudite Hume was now forecasting
that Clinton was…going down. And
she did.
So where are we now a year later? Divided
as heck. Resistance on the left. Some of it
idiotic, led by money-scavengers, sell-outs
like Mad Max Waters. Some resistance
even on the right, with some of the “swamp”
Republicans doing their best to protect
their vested interests and obstruct the
Trump agenda.
One year in to Trump time. Time to get
some legislation passed, Mr. Trump. •
