April is Child Abuse Prevention Month and the
Hawthorne Police Department is Going Blue
Every 10 seconds, a report of child abuse is made. You can help change that. Join Richstone Family Center in going blue and raising awareness this April. Preventing child abuse and neglect is especially important during these unprecedented times. At Richstone Family
Center, they’ve seen an increased need for services and they’ve adapted in order to meet the needs of the vulnerable kids and families who need them by leading virtual sessions and programs. Together, we can help prevent child abuse. Show your support during Child
Abuse Prevention Month and help create safe, stable, and nurturing relationships that enable children and families in our South Bay community to lead full lives. Your support during this month goes a long way in creating a brighter future for kids and their families. We
hope you’ll join us. If you want to participate the easiest way is to wear blue on Fridays during April. You can also go to their website for more info, crafting downloads and sign the pledge. https://www.richstonefamily.org Photo courtesy Hawthorne Police Department.

Expectations
I’m back! Okay, I got lazy last
week and just didn’t sit down and
pluck anything into the keyboard.
This was really disappointing to
some of my 32 sometimes loyal,
somewhat dedicated, get-a-life, dysfunctional
readers. I could tell, you all really
did miss me. I received one email asking if
I had passed on. One critic thanked me for
not cluttering up his inbox and wasting his
time with this stupid stuff. One email thought
that I had been cancelled by the real cancel
culture police. Someone thought my old lady
finally put her foot down on my internet and
pulled the plug. No, sorry I’m still kicking.
I’m back at it trying to underperform like
always. When the bar is set low there is no
pressure to exceed expectations. It’s nice
when no one expects me to do anything
worthwhile. In this crazy world, the pressure
to achieve and impress gets us all messed
up. We think we have to do something that
the world thinks is impressive. We get a
degree, get a high paying position, we work
our way up to the top. Success is not always
the best thing for us. We get the big head.
We think we are really “tough stuff”. But
in actuality, we are really “full
of it”. When we think too highly
of ourselves, we try to impress
to impress. I read somewhere or
maybe I’m just making this quote
up: “Success is the downfall of all
good men”. Don’t get me wrong,
we should strive to do good. We
should work to be the best we
can, but we should never let it
go to our heads. Jesus looked at
the common, the ordinary, the lowly, the
helpless people and said that they were the
greatest. Jesus has it backward compared
to our world. The last shall be first and the
big shots shall be last. When we take care
of others, when we do the routine and the
mundane chores that need to be done to keep
our little worlds going, we are successful. God
loves us regardless of how worldly successful
we are. He loves the millionaire as well as
the homeless. The question is where do we
put our trust. Is it in our money and strength
or do we look to God to guide us? When
it’s all said and done, being a “success” in
this world will mean nothing. So, why not
relax, trust God, have a cold one, and lower
that stress and pressure buttons that we put
upon ourselves. When we don’t compete to
beat someone out, or when we don’t think we
are “hot potatoes”, we can have contentment
