Doesn’t Like Fees
On Thursday, February 29, 2019, I was
distraught because a close friend of mine
had lost her husband. Otherwise, my placard
would have been displayed, as usual, where I
was cited at Ralphs, 500 PCH. Ralphs, 500
PCH (formerly Sepulveda) is my store. I
just simply forgot my placard. Much to my
chagrin, as I came out, there was this nice
little citation posted on my windshield.
On the following day, I went to the El
Segundo PD, March 1, 11:27, a.m., took my
customer placard, which displays my number
and expiration number. Why am I being charged
an administrative fee of ten dollars? Is this
because I am a non-resident? I have friends in
El Segundo whom I knit with, socialize with,
and spend money there, far more than I spend
in Inglewood, for all of these fifteen years.
Believe me, it’s not the $10, it’s the principle
of being charged when I should not
have been charged an administrative fee,
although I did get to see the lobby and empty
desks through the glass windows of your
El Segundo PD, which resembles Mayberry
PD, very nice, indeed.

Exaggeration and/or Hyperbole?
I wonder if Chris Pimentel might be guilty
of exaggeration and/or hyperbole in his letter
last week? As a member of the City Council,
Mr. Pimentel might know more about Automated
License Plate Readers than the rest
of us. But I would love to hear him explain
how they generate some sort of record of my
neighbor walking over for a visit. How would
a “map of my daily life be created” when I
walk to the beach? After all, according to Mr.
Pimentel, our local government is “monitoring
and recording every visitor that I host
and every departure that I make.” Automated
License Plate Readers may be a great idea
and a useful tool for law enforcement. Or
they may be a Socialist conspiracy to degrade
our freedoms. Probably somewhere in the
middle, but Mr. Pimentel’s overstatements
do not contribute to a reasonable debate.

U10 and U12 Girls Soccer Teams
Cap Off Great Seasons
Two El Segundo teams from Region 92
advanced far this season. Both the U10
Fire Girls and U12 Premier All Star teams
moved on in the AYSO Section 1 All Star
Tournament that includes squads from all
over Southern California as well as Nevada.
The tournament features the teams from
six divisions that win or place in their area
all-tournament. Area 1D comprises the six
sections from Westchester down through the
South Bay and encompasses about 10,000
youth players in the overall pool.
The U12 girls advanced to Riverside after
beating Redondo when the game was tied
and remained so after two 15-minute overtime
periods. The game went to a shootout
where El Segundo and goalie Cadee Baird
emerged victorious. It was a season of some
exciting games, impressive teamwork and
dedication. Coached by Joe Lococo with
Assistant Coach Jake Guy, the U12 team
players are Cadee Baird, Arianna Barrios,
Yuvia Bernauer, Riley Dawson, Sage Guy,
Kennadi McAndrews, Natalie McAndrews,
Tess McAndrews, Ashley Perkins, Lola Peterson,
Charlotte Stewart and Chloe Thiel.
The U10 Fire Girls were the region champions
who advanced to Section playoffs in
Riverside. Audrey Camarillo led the way
with seven goals in three games to advance
them to the semifinal the following day.
The girls gave it their all, losing a closely
contested match 2-1 to end their season at
20-2. Coached by Miguel Camarillo with
Assistant Coach Dan Thiel, the U10 players
are Daniela Bacil, Sammie Barragan, Sam
Brady, Emma Burke, Audrey Camarillo,
Scarlett Thiel, Olivia Torres and Peyton Zajic.
