Donna McCarthy
Donna McCarthy, 94, passed
away on May 30, 2019. Donna
was born in Coweta, Oklahoma and
later moved to Manhattan Beach
before settling in El Segundo.
She retired from Western Airlines
in 1987 where she earned the
nickname, The Flying Granny.
She spent her retirement years
volunteering all over El Segundo.
She worked with the Chamber of Commerce,
Josyln Center, and Chevron. She volunteered
at the El Segundo High School Library
for over twenty years. As an original resident of
Park Vista from the day it opened in 1987, she
was fundamental in creating social programs,
decorating for each holiday, and connecting
the residents with the community.
She was honored for her work
in 1998 by being awarded El
Segundo’s Senior Citizen of the
Year. She loved to be needed and
constantly offered to lend a hand
to any person, organization, or
service club she could find. She
loved to garden, solve crossword
puzzles, travel, and spend time
with her family. She was a beloved mom to
Nancy (deceased), Kevin, Laura, and Peggy and
loving grandmother to her 9 grandchildren and
11 great grandchildren. She will be terribly
missed but never forgotten. A Celebration of
Life will be held at Park Vista in El Segundo
on June 15th between 1:00 and 3:00.
