Obituaries
Cecil Michael (Mac) McAllister
Cecil McAllister, known to
his family and friends as Mac,
passed away on September
1, 2017. He was born in
Minneapolis, MN on January
10, 1930 to Cecil McAllister,
Sr. and Gladys (Goodrie)
McAllister. He had an older
sister (Vivian). His family
moved around the country,
wherever his military father
was stationed. They eventually
returned to Minneapolis,
where he met the love of his
life, Eileen Pahl.
They were married in 1950 in Minneapolis,
and then travelled to California, where they
settled in Culver City. Mac was lucky and
got a job at Hughes, and worked there until
he was laid off in 1960. Using his severance
pay, they were able to purchase their first
home, which was in El Segundo. Mac started
working as a truck driver for Criterion Metal
Fabricators, working his way up through the
company until he was General Manager. He
retired in the 1980’s.
Mac was very active in the Church
community at St. Anthony’s Church in El
Segundo. He often MC’d the yearly luncheon,
called Bingo once a week, and was Head
Usher for many years. He was always
involved in his children’s
schools, acting as chaperon at
school dances, chairing many
committees, and working the
football games at St. Bernard’s
High School. He was also
involved in the El Segundo
community, volunteering for
many jobs, including delivering
Meals on Wheels for
many years.
Mac is pre-deceased by
Eileen, his wife of 65 years.
They had four children,
Michael (Cindy), Kevin (Susan),
Cindy (Jerry) and Diane (Jerry). They
had 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
They ‘adopted’ many others along the
way, as their house and hearts were always
open. Mac was a quiet, patient man who led
his family with silent strength and humor.
He was quick to laugh and was the center
of our large extended family. We will miss
him greatly, but his legacy will continue on
in the loving family and friends he touched
with his simple life.
Mac’s funeral services were held Monday,
September 11, 2017 at Holy Cross Cemetery
in Culver City. In lieu of flowers, the family
requests that you make a donation to your
favorite charity in his name. •
“For life and death are one,
even as the river and
the sea are one.”
– Khalil Gibran
