Leo (Steve Buscemi) and Betty (Ann Dowd)
-- a couple whose daughter went missing some
30 years prior. Immediately, something clicks
in Nancy’s mind. She is convinced she is their
missing daughter.
Nancy calls Betty with the news and after the
initial shock wears off, Betty invites Nancy to
their home. Betty, the naive optimist, quickly
falls in love with Nancy and the notion that
her prodigal daughter has finally returned. Leo,
on the other hand, is more wary and keeps
Nancy at an arm’s length in the beginning. The
more time the couple spends with Nancy and
vice versa, the more everyone believes in this
seemingly impossible happy ending. However,
Nancy’s past behavior is questionable; can we
really trust that she is the person she thinks
she is? Or is this just another false character
and elaborate lie?
Nancy is the writer and director’s first
feature film and the debut is a stunning one.
Riding that fine line between unsettling and
sympathetic, Choe has successfully created
a strong and multi-dimensional female character.
These types of storylines in which the
protagonist is as unpredictable as the wind are
to be brought back to the Board for possible
approval at the June 26 meeting.
In its fifth year of existence, the LCAP is a
state program that targets specific student groups
and tasks districts to – as Janicek noted in an
email sent prior to the meeting -- hit goals in
eight priority areas and guarantee that they are
“using our resources in a way that best supports
student success and growth.” She wrote
that the plan “details the goals, the outcomes
and the dollars that will be devoted to help all
students succeed.”
District Chief Business Official Susan Aceves
next presented, relating information to the
Board after crunching the numbers about the
proposed budget for the 2018/19 school year.
El Segundo Educational Foundation CEO
Carol Pirsztuk had made the initial brief presentation
of the evening, in which she told the
members how the Ed! Foundation was able
present a $1.5 million check to the District
this school year, which helped to back multiple
programs that need funding because El
Segundo Unified is one of 88 districts in the
state that receive the least amount of money
from Sacramento.
During the consent agenda portion of the
nearly three-hour meeting, the Board tackled
what may have been a record-setting 32 items,
including an Eagles’ Nest summer camp; the
yearly agreement with JW Photography to
produce photos for the elementary schools;
field trips for the El Segundo High varsity
football and cross-country teams; summer boot
camps to not only aid incoming students, but
also help new teachers and veteran instructors
sharpen their skills; and renewal of the contract
with Global Transportation Services to
continue to provide bus service to the District
at a reasonable rate.
Action items were next on the agenda, with
the Board gladly accepting a gift from the El
Segundo Middle School PTSA for $31,607;
approving the El Segundo High summer reading
list; ratifying an agreement with SoCalROC;
approving a high school choir field trip to
Chicago; and moving forward to file requests
for proposal for three possible upcoming capital
outlay projects.
In her report, Moore said she looked forward
to today’s and tomorrow’s promotion
and graduation ceremonies, which she termed
“milestones in our children’s lives.”
The next regularly scheduled El Segundo
School Board meeting is calendared for June
26, with the open session set to begin at 7 p.m.

(BPT) - Prescription drug coverage and
medications can be complex territory.
Enter UnitedHealthcare Medicare & Retirement’s
Chief Pharmacy Officer Mike Anderson,
PharmD, who has spent his career navigating
the ins and outs of the Rx world.
Below, Anderson answers some questions
people frequently ask about drug coverage
and prescriptions.
Q. What’s the difference between PDP and
MA-PD plans?
A. Original Medicare doesn’t provide coverage
for most prescription drugs, so for help paying
for medications, you have two options: a
standalone Part D prescription drug plan (PDP)
in addition to Original Medicare or Original
Medicare and a Medicare supplement plan; or
a Medicare Advantage plan with prescription
drug coverage (MAPD). Medicare Advantage
plans can include additional benefits like dental,
vision and hearing coverage, and combine your
coverage into a single plan.
Q. How do I know if my prescriptions are
covered by my Medicare plan?
A. Whether you get coverage through Medicare
Advantage or a standalone Part D plan,
each has a formulary, a list of prescription
drugs covered. Look closely to make sure your
medications are covered. Health insurers post
plan formularies online, or you can call your
plan to request a printed version.
Q. How can I save money while remaining
on my medications?
A. There are many ways to do that:
Home-delivery pharmacy benefits can save
money and a trip to the pharmacy. Some
mail-order pharmacies offer the convenience
of ordering a three-month supply of drugs
delivered to your home for less than purchasing
at a retail location.
If you prefer to visit a pharmacy, check if
your plan offers programs or preferred pharmacy
networks to help you save on prescriptions.
Switching to generic drugs or drugs on a lower
tier of the formulary could also save money.
Q. Can I split my pills in half?
A. Talk to your doctor about whether pillsplitting
for your medication is medically
advised. Also, consult your pharmacist on
whether the actual pill form presents risks.
Some pills are dangerous when split, because
splitting affects how quickly the drug is released
into your body. Other pills become ineffective
when split, because the pill contains a coating
to protect it from stomach acid, and splitting
the pill breaks that coating.
